I bought the Canon HV20 as soon as it came out. I also bought quite a few accessories for the HV20. Fortunately, as I pointed out in another post, all those accessories also work with the HV30. Probably the best of those is the portable battery charger and battery for the HV20, because who really wants to keep buying replacement batteries. The good news is the HV30 also works with a bunch of other useful accessories, like external microphones, add-on lenses, and a handful of other tools anyone with a Canon HV30 should have in their toolkit.
Canon WD43 Wide Convert .7x wider perspective - My biggest gripe about all consumer cameras is they never offer a wide enough field of view at close range. Adding this lens adapter is the single best thing you can do to improve your videos at close range. If you can’t find one in stock, another interesting option is to get a 43mm to 46mm ring adapter and a 46mm lens.
Canon BP-2L14 Battery as both a backup and to extend your shooting time when no AC power is available. Having a backup battery may be among the most important tools any camcorder owner can have. There are many instances, like your child’s sporting events, backpacking trips, and beach excursions (to name a few) where plugging in your camcorder simply isn’t an option.
Canon CB-2L Battery Charger - for those times you don’t want to waste space in your bag on the full size AC adapter and cable. Most of the places I shoot video aren’t convenient for connecting AC power. Often, I’m returning to my hotel room at the end of the day to recharge my batteries. This charger takes up less space than the cable that ships with the HV20, making it a perfect portable source of power.
Canon FS43U Neutral Density Filter - assists with manual exposures in scenarios like bright snow conditions, bright light, or lighting the perfect sunset. While you won’t need this for every outdoor scenario, when you need it, you’ll be glad you planned ahead.
The LensPen lens cleaner is one of the best ways to keep your camcorder lens clean. One of the most effective tools I’ve found for removing accidental smudges from a camcorder lens.
If you have an HV30 what are other accessories you consider necessary?
