Canon HG21 and Canon HF11 Redefine AVCHD

Comment?

Canon is changing the video quality game for AVCHD camcorders. Previous high definition hard disk camcorders have been limited to under 20 Mbps in bitrate, which translates to fairly compromising HD footage. With the release of the HG21 and HF11, Canon is stepping up the quality bar, maxing out the AVCHD specification to utilize the full 24 Mbps potential, which should translate to video rivaling what we’ve seen from HDV tape. Unfortunately, you’ll have to make friends with someone in Japan to get your hands on either of these camcorders, as they aren’t currently distributed in the rest of the world. Details on the Canon HG21 and Canon HF11 are available translated from Japanese.
