As editing AVCHD files is still something of a support boondoggle, it’s good to see that Sony is continuing to rev their software to support the cameras adopting their frustrating format. As pointed out in a post on editing AVCHD with Pinnacle Studio, it’s often easier to simply copy files between hard drives rather than jumping through hoops created by the camcorder manufacturer. The latest update to Vegas, 8.0c, adds support for the Panasonic AVCHD camcorders, along with fixing an .MOV bug. What’s frustrating about this is that adding support for a specific camcorder manufacturer makes it clear that AVCHD is less of a standard format, like HDV has become, and more of a free-for-all.
