I just bought a Sony DCR-HC38 model Mini DV camcorder, and I also picked up a firewire cable. Anyway, when looking at reviews for the camcorder, it was pretty universal that the software that comes in the pack is very bad, and I'm pretty ignorant of software out there, so what is a good program to pick up? Free programs would be great, but I'm willing to pay if there is no good freeware.My goal is simply to transfer and save video onto the computer, and also be able to edit the video. By that I mean cut out parts I don't want, join parts together, and so forth, NOT make pretty borders or cool effects. I really know nothing about how to do this or what is good, so any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't owned a camcorder in years and I used to just transfer video to VHS which is pretty obsolete now. Thanks in advance.I'm using Windows XP SP 2
