Default Video Cassets transfer?

I have a lot of home movies from the 90's and they're in casset form... or more video form. I know this may not be possible... but is there a chance you can transfer those movies or clips onto a dvd disk or a computer at all? I know it sounds far fetched but i didn't know if that was possible or not. I would really like to have my home movies on my computer or even on a DVD. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Thanks.

You'll have to buy a video receiver card for your computer. You should be able to connect the RCA cables of your VCR into that card and sing the software that usually comes with those cards you can record the videos to your computer and then to DVDs.By the way, the price for an average card is around $100, so if you get something cheaper or more expensive remember that you get what you pay for it.

yes it can be done but the DVD will save it in the same quality as the tape has on it now......no improvement in quality.

It's not far fetched, your home movies from VHS, VHS-C or 8mm, Hi-8 or Digital 8 can be transfered to a DVD. You may want to contact a local production company and see if they will transfer it for you at a reasonable rate. You may find out that doing it yourself takes up a lot of computer memory that you might not have and then the computer has to "digitize" the video to create a DVD with chapter points. And is your time worth the effort of doing it vs. having it professionally done???If you want to use your computer hard drive to do this, go to a computer store who sells the necesary cards, or someone like radio shack or see if your local production company (who video tape weddings), will give you some free advice.Another method is to purchase a DVD recorder. They are less costly than they were 2 years ago and the $300.00 they cost might be cheaper than having a production company do it. Then after you done transfering all your video tapes to DVD you can use the DVD recorder to record all your favorite shows just like you would record on a VCR, except the video is stored in the hard drive of your DVD recorder, and once you've watched it you can just delete it.You won't want to store your home movies on your computer because if you have a crash, it will all be lost. (and it takes up a lot of computer space.) Be sure to transfer it to a DVD.(Just an aside. If you have your digital pictures stored in your computer or lap top, please transfer them to a cd right away. You don't want to loose your digital pictures because your lap top is stolen or your computer crashes!)Oh, and one more thing! You might not get BETTER quality from this transfer, but your video tapes will not degrade further and the level of video your tapes offer now, will be better than what happens in 3-5 years to the further degrading of the tapes. So transfer NOW
