Default video capture using mini dvd

Hello..I'm new to the board and want to ask for some help, please..I recently purchased a Hitachi "mini disc" camcorder...mistakenly I "went cheap" and bought the one that only creates the mini discs and has no ability to transfer data to my pc via usb or firewire..Here's what I'm trying to do:

I finalize the mini disc as indicated in the camcorder instructions and the disc plays just fine on my dvd drive on my PC..

I can't seem to see any way I can capture the video into my Windows XP for later editing..I realize I will have to get a video editing program to handle the work but the first hurdle is how to capture the information..

If the simple way is to get another cam corder, not a problem as I can give the one I have to my Grandson but if I can use it that would be great. If a new camcorder is in order, suggestions would be appreciated to fit the scenario I outlined. I have a fairly complete PC according to my neighbor and a 312 gp hard drive that is not being used much at all...

I'm a 70 year old computer baby and while I get along with things pretty well, "be gentle" with the techno talk as I am still in the "dial phone" catagory when it comes to computerese...

many thanks,

Kerncat

You'll need to invest in a video editing app that supports ripping the video from a DVD. The ripping process transfers the files from DVD to your computer and then you can edit it in the app. I find Roxio Easy Media Creator to be the easiest solution for this, although Sony Vegas also works well.

Here's a tutorial on using Roxio for ripping mini DVDs

Thank you for the answer...I've looked at the software suggested and it appears it is just what I've wanted...again, thanks for helping out the "old guy"...
