Default Help!! My computer wont take my video device...?

I have a 2002 sony video camera and I bought a new Dell XPS computer (the latest model-XPS 400). I plugged in the usb cord to the port and it says it does not detect my video device...I tried just my regular picture camera and it located that. My videos are not being detected and it makes me sad...help! I need to make a movie!

I Guess Thats Because The Video Connection Is A Firewire And The USB Is Just For The Memory Stick...

Your camera should have come with a cd to install drivers, so that your computer will detect the device. 90% of USB plug-in's are not fast enough to transfer video. You will likely need too use firewire input in order to make the computer detect and transfer video. You will also likely need software to transfer and encode this video into video files. I recomend the Nero Suite of software. After you have installed the Drivers for the camera and hooked it up for Firewire input, you should be able to transfer your video files. A Firewire cable is available at all major electronics stores, including Walmart and Staples. Your computer should have included on it Windows Movie Maker, which is sufficient for transfering and encoding video files, this will allow you to do so without buying additional software.
