Default Windows Movie Maker Problems

Here is my problem. I have downloaded on my computer some movies that I
would like to burn with WMM. The problem is the following...Some of the
movies I have downloaded appear in a folder, inside the folder there is
a AVI file. When I import it into WMM, the AVI Movie Logo turns into
what looks like a 35mm negative. When I drag it into the video timeline,
all is fine and I can burn my dvd. Other movies that I download, also
appear with the AVI logo but not in a folder. When I import it into WMM,
it remains as the AVI logo and does not turn into the 35mm negative.
When I try to drag it into the video timeline, it will not permit me to
do so but instead it will go into the Audio/Music timeline. When I do
try to burn the dvd, all I get is sound and funky abstract colors on my
dvd player. Yet when I open either AVI files with Windows Media
Player...there is no problem viewing it from my computer. I am running
Windows Vista and I am using DIVX. Can someone please help me as this is
driving me crazy?

Thanks

White Sugar

you don't have to use Movie Maker...

Thank-you for answering back.
I have tried to burn my dvds with windows dvd maker but I get the
following answer:

The file Cardio.avi is not valid or is corrupted

Yet I can watch it properly on windows movie player. When I burn it
from Windows Movie Player and the try to watch in on my dvd player I see
the following on my tv screen....a computer like generated picture on my
screen that has a file that says other, when I click on "other" it opens
a second file that says Cardio, when I click on Cardio, it goes back to
Other. When I play the burned dvd on my computer I can watch it properly
and without the computer generated look like screen.

Thanks

Hi All, I copied a 5 min. DVD to my computer, then tried to import it to WMM.
But WMM will only accept the first 30 seconds of the DVD. I suspect that
their is some setting that is limiting the amount of time of imports. I have
been hunting around for that setting so that I can import the entire DVD. No
luck. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Default Hoping to import VOB file to WMM

Hi John, I hoped you would write to me. I have seen your wonderful posts!
The file is VOB and I know from your posts that I must change the VOB. I
used handbrake to ?encode? it to something ?M4P? , but I get a message that
codec is not installed. Thanks so much for helping.

==================================
First...just try renaming the file to VIDEO_TS.MPG
and see if it will import. If the import works...drag
the file to the timeline and Publish it in the .wmv
or .avi format. Then...reimport the new movie clip
for editing purposes.

If that fails...rename the file back to Video_TS.VOB
and try converting the file to .wmv or .avi using the
following free converter:

SUPER © Simplified
Universal Player Encoder & Renderer
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER
(the mirror download site is faster)

(FWIW...it's always a good practice to create a
System Restore point before installing new software)

After installing SUPER...open the program and
drag/drop your .VOB file into the Active field.

Output Container...choose...wmv.

Video Scale...select...No Change.

Left click the Encode button.

Simple Profile / OK.

(FWIW..I have better luck with video if I do not
try to multi-task while a file is being converted)

When the file is converted...you should find it in...
Program Files / eRightSoft / Super / OutPut.

Good luck...

Hi John, I have tried and tried, but...though I could get SUPER to play the
whole video, I could not save it on my computer. I think I must save it to
the computer in order to import it to the WMM so I can edit the DVD. When I
looked in the OutPut, the file was empty. Thank you for your help.Carol

Don't know what to tell you...I'm sorry if my
instructions were no useful

Maybe the original file is corrupted. Would
it be possible to obtain a new copy of the
VOB file and try again to convert it with
Super?
