| How do I capture audio from the internet - through speakers? I click on my "SOund recorder" but nothing is recorded from You Tube. I assume there are some adjustments I need to make somewhere? Thanks for the help. |

First, you need a way to download video from YouTube. Second, you need a utility to convert FLV and MP4 to MP3. I use Firefox 3.5.3 and addon FlashGot to download video from YouTube. You pick a video and start playing to get a link. Right-click on a empty spot on the webpage to bring up the context menu and look for parenthesis around a number next to FlashGot. The number indicates the number of video links it caught. Once you download the video use a video to MP3 audio converter to rip the audio from the video format. YouTube uses FLV (Flash Video) and MP4 video formats. |

| I don't want to download video, I just want to capture the audio portion using "Sound Recorder" in Vista Home Premium. | See my website's Import Movie Source Files > Music and Audio page... maybe you can use Movie Maker to capture whatever is playing on the computer, as I do. -- PapaJohn www.papajohn.org "Wolverine in Michigan" <wolverineinmich@gmail.com> wrote in message news:OjSkS2dSKHA.4408@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > I don't want to download video, I just want to capture > the audio portion using "Sound Recorder" in Vista Home Premium. > > > > > Tae Song wrote: >> >> "Wolverine in Michigan" <wolverineinmich@gmail.com> wrote in message >> news:u$XJtbdSKHA.1236@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >>> >>> How do I capture audio from the internet - through speakers? YouTube uses FLV (Flash Video) and MP4 >> video formats. >> Well, if you really want to it that way. You might want to get a stereo speaker wire with the mini plugs and connect the speaker out to mic in. I don't think the Sound Recorder provides any other options. But you're going to loose some audio quality and you have to adjust and re-adjust the volume to get optimal audio level. Which means plugging and unplugging the audio and speaker cables repeatedly. Given the parameters of your request, that's about the best solution I can provide. Deviate from your request a little bit, you might search for audio recording software with options to select audio source. You might run across something that might allow for recording wave out directly from the app like a web browser. I'm sure it can be done, but I can't say I've ever come across anything like that in all my computer experience. Not that I've ever tried looking for one. There's no real difference between watching and downloading the video. It still has to be sent to your computer. If you download it, it's easier to locate and work with. Watching it, it buffers the video in the internet cache somewhere with a randomly generated name. |

| Apologies if this question's already been resolved. From what I see, it hasn't I frequently listen to radio over the web, and catch up on some videos on You Tube, etc. A wide range of audio sources. I wanted to record anything that I could hear. I had the audio software, but Vista wasn't configured to enable that kind of source. This is how. You don't need to download software, converters, podcasts, videos, anything. Your audio hardware should have a setting which allows anything you hear over the speakers to be recorded. That's what you need to have enabled. AFAIK all Vista machines will have the same setting as on mine: "Stereo Mix". If you do not have that as a recording option, it is simple to add it. Control Panel > Sound > select Recording tab. You should see Stereo Mix as a device. If you do, skip the next three lines and go to the ** line If you do NOT see Stereo Mix as a Recording Device: Right-click anywhere in the white area of the device listings. Check the options for "Show Disabled Devices". You should see Stereo Mix appear. ** Left click on Stereo Mix to highlight it. Click on Properties. See Device Usages at the bottom of the panel .. change the setting to "Use this device (enable)". Repeat click on OK, OK, OK etc to get out of the Sound tab and exit the control panel. That worked for me, and did not require any downloads of anything. I record using a range of software including Sonar and Cool Edit. All the options work for me. The only caveat is that any sounds you have enabled, such as Windows sounds, etc etc, will be recorded along with the audio you actually want to record. You'll have to silence those other sources if you don't want them.
