    Default speaker setup

WMC will only acknowledge two speakers, I have a 5.1 setup and have done
everything correct but in media center I am not given the option of any other
speaker setup (2 Speakers) - help would be greatly appreciated

I encountered the same problem, but found that the system was capable of
handling it, though it was not intuitive.

    I have a Logitech Z-5300 speaker system, a 500-watt five-speaker system. It
connects to my Asus M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Motherboard, which has a
built-it sound system, so the connectors are not on a PCI card; they are
adjacent to the keyboard and mouse connectors.

First, I set the switch on my speaker system to 5.1.

The speaker system comes out with Green/Black/Orange. The motherboard
connectors described above have similar connectors Lime(Green)/Black/Orange.

The confusing part is the Lime connector. The answer was buried in the Asus
motherboard documentation. The connector is a dual purpose, depending on
how you use it. The description says, "8. Line Out port (lime). This port
    connects a headphone or a speaker. In 4-channel, 6-channel, and 8-channel
configuration, the function of this port becomes Front Speaker Out."

So, the lime is a combination-signal which you could use for a monaural
signal or for the mono signal for a 5.1 system, which is your front speaker.

All this means the combo signal for the front speaker probably isn't a
software thing. All it does is combine LR. So, either you plug it in or
    you don't. WMC wouldn't have a vote.
