Default Sound issues, scanning pictures

It seems to me, by reading other posts, that I am not the only one having
sound issues with computers that have Windows Vista. I have a COMPAQ
Presario SR5130NX. I know that the speakers I have are hooked up correctly
because I do hear sound out of them. Just not very loud sound, and the
volume is turned up all the way. Is it that the speakers that I have are not
compatible with the Windows Vista? They worked fine on my other computer
with Windows 2000.

I have another question too. I have a HP scanner. I did manage to get it
hooked up and it scans beautifully. The problem is the file that it scans
to. What is an xps file? I am not only having problems finding the scanned
picture on my computer when I try to upload it, but when I try to send the
picture to someone, they cannot open the file due to the use of xps to save
it. Can it be changed to a jpg or bmp file?

Any help on both issues will be appreciated.
