fwiw, quartz.dll is pretty definitely on your system. Sorry I forgot to
mention the ".dll" and confused you. =)

If you turn off Video Smoothing in WMP's Tools:Options:Performance menu and
restart the player and play the clip, does it play back properly?

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a similiar problem (and found this thread whilst searching for a solution).

Videos shot with my Canon digital Ixus will no longer play in Windows Media Player (version 11.0.5721.5230). I get the usual "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close" etc.

The videos are motion jpegs and they used to play fine in WMP 11.

Here's the very strange thing though. Gspot says the video renders just fine:

Also, the videos play just fine in Media Player Classic (and Quicktime and various others). So I can't see why WMP won't render this. (Gspot reports quartz as being able to play it.)

Anyone have any ideas for a fix. (WMP is my preferred player.)

Thanks

What's the fault data--
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
for this crash according to the Problem Reports and Solutions Center control
panel's View Problem History?

Also, posting XP issues in a Vista newsgroup may confuse people. =\
