Yes if you are running Enterprise or Ultimate editions of Vista, otherwise you need a 3rd party program. Alternately, there are flash drives available that offer password protection. -- *Report back, please* |

| Thank you Bob. I am running Vista Home Premium, so that would explain it. Is there a way of stopping photos automatically copying into Photo Gallery when adding them to 'My Pictures'? | You're welcome Diana. The photos are not "in" Photo Gallery. What you see in Photo Gallery are "links" to the photos on your hard drive. To verify this, right click a photo in PG and you will see an option to "open file location" You should not delete the pictures in Photo Gallery unless you actually intend to delete the pictures from your computer. Please note, you should not be adding photos to the 'My Pictures' folder, or any other types of files to a folder that begins with "My" because in Vista they are not real folders. They are junctions which point to the corresponding folder i.e "Pictures". If you have another photo viewer or photo editing application you can make that the default program which opens the photo. When you upload photos to your PC you are given the option to choose the folder you want to upload to. For the sake of organization I suggest you create sub-folders under the Pictures folder and give them names which will help you easily indentify the contents of the folder, for example, Disneyland 2008-3-13. If you use the Draw application which is part of the open source (free) office suite www.openoffice.org you can password protect a photo when you save it. -- *Report back, please* "Diana Morgan" <morgandiana@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:eJQMTgOhIHA.5160@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Thank you Bob. > > I am running Vista Home Premium, so that would explain it. > > Is there a way of stopping photos automatically copying into Photo Gallery > when adding them to 'My Pictures'? > > "Bob" <nowhere@nowhere.net> wrote in message > news:cqqdncd5z_C-7EXanZ2dnUVZ_gKdnZ2d@comcast.com... >> >> "Diana Morgan" <morgandiana@ntlworld.com> wrote in message >> news:CBB19D58-A3B1-4427-AED7-758407647D34@microsoft.com... >>> In the help menu it says to right click on folder then chose 'remove >>> from >>> gallery' but I am not getting that option! >>> >>> Is there another way to make certain folders private? >>> Can anyone advise please? >> >> Yes if you are running Enterprise or Ultimate editions of Vista, >> otherwise >> you need a 3rd party program. >> >> Alternately, there are flash drives available that offer password >> protection. >> -- >> *Report back, please* > |

| By default, WPG will display photos & videos in C:\Users\(youraccount)\Pictures C:\Users\(youraccount)\Videos C:\Users\Public\Pictures C:\Users\Public\Videos and in all sub-folders under them. You can't tell WPG to stop watching them. If you want some photos not shown, simply create a folder elsewhere, move the photos to it, and don't tell WPG to look at it. -- http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview "Diana Morgan" <morgandiana@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:eJQMTgOhIHA.5160@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl...
