Default photo gallery imports duplicates

We just got photo gallery and used it to import pictures from a digital
camera. It is not supposed to import pictures that are already imported but
it does. What are we doing wrong, or is there a problem with photo gallery?
Thanks for any help, Mike

If you compare the names of the duplicates, are they exactly the same?

I started from scratch and impoted the pictures, 141 of them, from the
camera. The file name of the first file is: C:\........\001.jpg. I then went
to import pictures again, without any new pictures on the camera. Photo
gallery said there were 141 pictures. Importing started and there were
duplicates. The first "new" file was : C:\.......\142.jpg!!
So, no, the file names are not the same.

Question: should I have let photo gallery import all of the pictures and
would it then have found the duplicates?

Thanks, Mike

So I decided to try windows live photo gallery after seeing some other posts.
Funny thing, it also wants to import duplictaes. At least it lets me select
what photos to import. I guess that is as good as it gets.

By the way, I have an old version of ACDsee and it finds the duplicates
before importing and asks if I want to import them anyway.
