| I have always used a 2gb Compact Flash card (the old big one) to transfer files from my camera to the PC, but also to write files from the PC and put them on my PS3, movie files and music mainly. This has been trouble free for many months, Then about 6 months ago the PC said the 2GB card was corrupt, I tried to format, it wouldn’t have it, as the cards was old I figured it must have died. I got a brand new 4gb card to replace it, which behaved exactly the same way. Odd I though, to prove it wasn’t the PC or reader I started using a pair of old 256mb cards I had which worked fine. So I returned the new 4gb card anyway thinking it must be DOA. SO i made do with the 256 ones until now. I just got a brand new 8GB CF card and it not working again. This time I did a more extensive test. Works fine in camera, works fine in PS3 and an old PC running XP. SO the card is fine. With the PC running Vista 64, it will sometimes read data but is usually is so slow it causes a crash and always crashes or gives an error message when you try to write to it. Given that is used to work, I figure perhaps the reader had gone faulty. Is a cheap generic internal one with USB connections to mother board. So I just got a known working reader and attached to the PC with a USB cable. Same issue, the 256mb cards are fine the 2GB and brand new 8Gb cards don’t work. Given it was such a long time ago I noticed the problem I cant simply roll back the PC to before it happened I need to find what has gone wrong with Vista to cause this most frustrating problem. Any one with any Idea’s I would be very grateful. Also as I am new to this forum if you could direct me to a different area or other forums if you believe that would be more productive in getting an answer, that would be helpful also. | Have you solved this please - I have just got exactly the same problem. Tried new reader - no difference. Small cards sometimes work - big card a big no. Vists sits there then crashes. Cheers -- adrian yallop |

| I wouldnt say solved, But I have stoped it crashing. Tried a friends "know good" internal card reader, Still same. Tried known good external card reader, via usb socket, and it works ok, is still deffinatly slower than normal USB speed, but it doesn keep stoping and crashing the machine anymore. Is obviously some software glitch with Vista 64 and internal memory card readers that connect to the mother board. For the sake of a external £4,99 card reader, I couldnt be bothered to look into it any further. -- Paul D Noob
