Know what... I just moved my jpg to the Picture folder after reading your cry
for help and my Preview/Gallery works fine now... I guess Vista doesn't want
pics and video in the same folder...

That is probably why there is a folder for Pictures and a folder for
Video... thanks for helping me by having a problem...

Did you both install XviD-Codec oder some other DirectShow Filter for
DivX-encoded AVIs? It seems to me, that there might be a problem with the
decoder used to create the mini images of your avis.

I have tested XviD-Codec a few days ago - and it crashes Windows Explorer,
if Divx-encoded AVIs has been in a folder and if I choose a miniature view
in my Video folder. After uninstalling that XviD-stuff, everything was ok.

I guess, it's definetely not true. You can store videos and images into the
same folder - also the import assistent copies videos and pictures from a
digital camera into the same folder.

Dear sir

effectively when I copy the film .AVI in a sub folder to leave only pictures
..jpeg in the main folder it work correctly, but it is not satisfying.

I go to delete some codec I have recently installed to verify if it correct
the problem.

regards.

Vista doesn't care what file type are in a particular folder. You can
mix .JPG, .MPV, .AVI, WMV, DIvX, etc. all in the same folder. I do all
the time with no problem.

Suspect one of the built in Vista applets as the source of the
problem. Either Photo Galley, Movie Maker or Media Player.

To attempt a fix try this:

1. Open movie maker.
2. Under Tools, Options, click on button to restore defaults.
3. Check if the problem goes away.

What this should do is delink codecs that any of the above applets may
be trying to access. According to Microsoft doing this should have no
impact on how any third party application function themselves. If you
want to try a more conservative approach disable one at a time from
the list you see after doing step #2 and see if you can find the codec
causing the problem.
