I currently have a 4-5 year old Panny PV-GS12 that isnt giving me the quality I am looking for. I have been looking both SD & HD alternatives. Since I use it 95% of the time to film my sons marching band halftime shows and my daughters gym meets, the capacity of a flash drive seems right in my wheel house.

Any suggestions from you guys for a decently priced (under $600) HD unit? Also, I want to make sure that anything I get will actually be an improvement in the picture quality department for filming at a high school football stadium or indoors in a gym.

I have been pouring through the net and I figured the best place to look would be a forum of people that use the hardware! :-)
