| I often said that there is no such an application that can be defined as all-in-one, or one-step to satisfy all your needs. Take DVD ripper for example, there are DVD ripping software that prevent you from importing DVD videos with CSS or CPPM protection for to fight against copy piracy. This is right, but causes some trouble for users who want to convert DVD videos to AVI, MPEG, and WMV etc. There are always alternatives to help ourselves out. Actually, Many American legal experts believe that under United States' Federal law, making a backup copy of a DVD-Video is legal under fair use protection meaning backup copies made with software such as DVD Decrypter are in fact legal but that distribution of the software used to make them is illegal. So today, I would like to tell you how to deal with DVD with protection legally. The worst thing might be that you cannot import the DVD videos with protection with the DVD Ripping software you have bought, in other words, the DVD ripper you own cannot decrypt the DVD movie. Got mad about this, right? No worries. You can take a detour. DVD decrypter is such an free application that is intended and dedicated to removes Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes, and user operation prohibition. Before we start DVD Decrypter requires that you have an ASPI layer installed. If you get an error message like "ASPI Initialization failed" upon starting up DVD Decrypter you have to install an ASPI layer before you can continue. Here is the interface of this application. ![]() After importing the DVD files, start to decrypt the movie by clicking on the dropdown option of “Decrypt”. ![]() Now that you have got decrypted movies, you are free to import them to a video converter, and convert it to AVI, MPEG, WMV, or iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP, Apple TV or other widescreen TV videos. I suggest you to try Pavtube video converter. The reason I recommend this is that it cannot only convert VOB files to AVI, MPEG etc, but also it can convert decrypted VOB files to videos that can be played on iPod, Zune, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Creative Zen, Pocket PC, Mobile Phone, Xbox 360, PDA, etc. In addition, it provides powerful editing functions, such as video effect adjusting, trimming, and cropping. The most distinguished thing is that it converts super fast. By the way, you can buy Pavtube video converter with half price since all Pavtube products are 50% discounted right now. Fancy you can buy a versatile video converter only with no more than $15. It is a real value. ![]() As I have said, there is no need to feel guilty if you have got DVD Ripper that is able to decrypt and rip the movie to video you need at the same time, e.g. Pavtube DVD Ripper. All you need to do is to make sure that you don’t use this kind of software for commercial use. And with this DVD ripper, you don’t need DVD decrypter and it saves you a lot of efforts. What’s more, Pavtube DVD Ripper is 50% discounted and you can buy one just with no more than $18. And they provide free upgrading for a life long time. |

| DVD Ripping seems to be quite a task, since DVD files always have huge size and the settings and option selecting are quite fussy. No need to worry much, the ripping software is continuously improving and this would surely and dramatically be simplified and speed up. This does not mean the ripping software can ensure you a 100% satisfying ripping process. The DVD Ripper, after all, is no more an application installed on your PC, so the process cannot be cut off from the settings of your PC and other possibly related factors. Here are some tips I have collected for your reference. First, Please do not copy the DVD to your hard disk, instead, you’d better rip the DVD videos directly. The reason is that when you select multiple files from hard disk, chances are the program may not convert from the very first file you have imported from HD and consequently the subtitles or audio would be hard to define. Most DVD Rippers realized Ripping DVD directly without copying DVD videos to HD, take Pavtube DVD Ripper for example, you can rip DVD directly from the DVD ROM and you are free to set the subtitle, the audio and angles,no confusions at all. Second, the CD ROM is vital for DVD Ripping. Choose one with good fault tolerance which rips fast without producing many bad spots. Much often than not, CD-ROM drive of laptops always perform frustratingly on ripping DVD Videos. Third, the simplest tip but it is also the one that is ignored, the aspect ratio. You need to check the aspect ratio of the DVD video, if it is widescreen 16:9, and you unfortunately choose 3:4, you will get dreadful output video with squished pictures. Alternatively speaking, the aspect ration depends on that of the original DVD rather than what you wish. Fourth, choose codecs carefully, paid ones are not always the best ones. Take DIVX for example, it is paid codec but it does not convince that it is better than free and open source XVID, considering its low speed and picture quality as well as its bulk size. What’s more, performance of XIVD almost tops that of its paralleling codecs in the latest testing. Speaking of the codecs, I would like to spare a few words on the compression rate or bitrate of the codec of XVID. A movie takes about 500MB to 600MB by default, but the exported video might disappoint you. If you set it to more than 1000MB, the video quality will definitely surprise you. Fifth, re-flash the CD-ROM drive to speed up your DVD Ripping. Some DVD-ROM manufacturers purposely limit the DVD ripping speed for the purpose of preventing customers from making copies of retail DVDs. The limitation can be ignored by flashing DVD-ROM drive with an updated firmware. Actually this is not a recommended way, because re-flashing firmware may result in permanent damage of CD-ROM drive. There are alternatives. You can either try installing ASPI Layers or reinstalling your IDE controller which is easy, you just uninstall it by flowing this way: My Computer (right click) - Hardware- Device Manage ![]() – IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers ![]() Reboot your computer, and the operating system will automatically reinstall it. These are the surrounding factors of low ripping speed, the ripping speed is mainly determined by the size of the file you are converting and the settings or configurations of your PC. Generally, the smaller of the file size, the less time it costs; the higher and the better of the CPU, the faster it rips. If all the above does not help at all, I suggest you try another DVD Ripper, since I haven’t talk about the DVD Ripping application itself so far. |
